  1. He was born on the farm Wilgerivier at Swaershoek. 2. He and his brother Hendrik bought the farm Wilgerivier (2571 Morgen 2 00 square roods or 2202 hectares) from their mother's estate by deed of sa le dated 04 06 1902 (Cape Archives MOOC 13/1/1262 R226) in which they he ld equal shares.Hendrik and his wife provided a home for Jacobus who w as a bachelor but the latter moved out to take up residence in an old home stead about two kilometres to the east. In November 1910 the farm was subd ivided and on 7 June 1911 the deducted portion which was named Glencoe we nt to Hendrik by Deed of Transfer 4077/1911 and the remainder of Wilgerivi er became the property of Jacobus by Deed of Transfer 4078/1911. For yea rs there had been consideable acrimony between the brothers and they no lo nger communicated. 3. There is conjecture about the cause of the ill-feeling between the t wo brothers but, a century later, when the participants and their immedia te descendants are all deceased, it as generally agreed that the problem c entred around Hendrik's wife Sarah Magdalene. There is considerable eviden ce that indicates that he fathered her youngest son, Jacobus Hercules who se tertiary education he paid for. Details filed with family documents. 4. His brother's son (Hendrik Jacobus) joined him and they farmed in partn ership and the old man lived with the family. 5. In accordance with his will, his estate, with one exclusion, was le ft to his niece Mary Ann Margaret Bosch and his above-named nephew. As a p rice could not be agreed upon, the former insisted upon a sale by aucti on where it fetched 12274 pounds and was knocked down to Hendrik Jacobus w ho then purchased Mary's share. 6.
