  1. It would appear that he unofficially changed his name to Johannes Chris tiaan. There are two Death Notices in his estate which were both sign ed by his widow. It must be assumed that the one dated 25 March 1972 givi ng the names familiar to his wife (bearing his acquired names) was fou nd to be unacceptable by the Master of the Supreme Court and was supersed ed by the later one dated 19 December 1973 bearing James Chester. The Dea th Notice is normally the first document signed by the person reporting t he death but the final substituted document was only signed almost two yea rs after his demise. 2.
