  He had served in the Royal Navy and arrived in 1820 as a member of Wilson 's party on "Belle Alliance." He was appointed Landdrost of Bathurst in 1824 and served as church treasu rer 1829-1834 His name is recorded on a marble plaque in the Anglican church
